Letter writing is one of the many ways that long distance couples are able to stay connected. It’s super easy to do but it also makes for something truly heartfelt.

Today we’re going to show you how to make your letters even more special with a truly unique creation that you can easily put together and send to your loved one. Basically, it’s a letter accordion that folds out into a chain of hearts when it’s opened. Pretty neat, right? It’ll definitely catch your loved one by surprise -they truly won’t expect it and it makes for a really awesome memento!

The best part? It takes less than 10 minutes to make!

Materials You’ll need:
An odd number of paper sheets (we’re using 5.)
A gluestick
A bone folder (or anything else that will help you to smooth your folds.)

Let’s get started!

Gather your assorted colored papers. You will need an odd number, anywhere from five to nine for this to work properly. Cut each of these papers into large hearts. The hearts should all be approximately the same size, or they will not fit well together once you’ve combined them.

Once your hearts are cut out, pick your first heart to work with. We’ll be doing each heart individually so the dimensions don’t become warped.

Take your heart and fold it as shown in the photos below. This will turn your heart into an adorable little envelope!

Once you’ve completed your first heart, move on to the remaining hearts that you have cut out, folding in the same manner. Use your bone folder to makes sure the folds are nice and crisp so that the hearts don’t unravel too much. You should now have several small envelopes.

Step 1: Fold both sides of the heart inward. Step 2: Fold the upper half of the heart down to meet where the previous folds end. Step 3: Fold the last triangular section upwards. This will be the flap that closes your envelope. Step 4: Repeat on all the hearts you have cut out!

Using a glue stick, glue the ‘envelopes’ together by placing glue on the inside flap of one envelope and attaching it to the front of the next envelope. Repeat until you have a long chain of envelopes.

Fold the envelopes accordion style, making the pointed flap of the first envelope the closure for the entire book of envelopes. You can tie with ribbon or use washi tape to keep it closed an all together.

To add text, notes or messages to the envelopes, just open them up one by one and scribble your sweet nothings in the available space that is left on each heart. When your sweetheart opens each heart to read your messages, each envelope will transform into a chain of hearts.
