When you’re in an LDR, it’s really important to think on the bright side and to always stay positive. That being said, there are some days when your emotions may get the best of you. So grab some tissues; here are some great songs for those times when you want to just put in your headphones and have a good cry.

First and foremost:

Soundrown.com is one of my favorite websites. Not only does it provide great background noise when you’re trying to bust out a 10-page paper, but the “Rain” setting adds a level of emotion to any song you’re listening to.

All I Want – Kodaline

My absolute favorite song. Perfect if you’re one of those people who enjoys crying. Bonus points for hugging a pillow while you do.

In Your Atmosphere – John Mayer

This is a genuinely good song that just happens to be sad. It’s the kind you’ll enjoy listening to, even if you’re happier than you’ve ever been.

Okay, good to go.

Hold You In My Arms – Ray LaMontagne

If you were featured in “She’s The Man,” you’ve got to be a pretty good song. Ray LaMontagne’s folk vibe is a refreshing, calming escape from all-too-present pop and electronic music. Sidenote: Viola and Duke forever.

We Don’t Eat – James Vincent McMorrow

This is the kind of song that you turn the volume all the way up to listen to. The chorus is guaranteed* to give you chills or your money back.

*Not actually guaranteed

People Help The People – Birdy

Birdy’s voice is beautiful and caters to sadder songs. The vocals combined with her amazing piano skills make this song perfect for getting carried away with the music.

 All This Time – OneRepublic

A little off the beaten path from OneRepublic’s usual sound, this song will surprise you in a good way. *Presses repeat*

 Hazy – Rosi Golan

This song will make you smile through the tears. The cute, sentimental lyrics will make you realize how lucky you are to have your SO.

 Be Alright – Lucy Rose

My eyes tear up the moment Lucy Rose starts to sing. The emotion in her voice truly makes this song one for the books.

You’re The Reason I Come Home – Ron Pope

Perfect for falling asleep to the thought of your SO. A bit more positive in terms of lyrics, this song is great for when you’re in the mood for something with a more relaxed vibe.

 Your Song – Ellie Goulding

This song, a remake of Elton John’s original, is not what most people would expect from Ellie Goulding, but breathtaking is the only word to describe it. Future wedding song? I think yes.
